The 5th Annual Ashura Making Contest was held at ATFA on January 24th. The event started with a video presentation by five high school students; Rana Yurtsever, Sabiha-Seniha Sungur and Betul-Busra sisters who also participated in the contest.
The video showed a skit about the history of ashura and the three young ladies’ own way of making it.
The 11 contestants cooked their ashura and brought them in nice plates. The plates were evaluated for presentation and taste by a jury which consisted of professional cooks, experienced men and women of the Turkish American Community.
Children got their face painted and had a lot of fun eating desserts after the contest.
